longtime dc fan and i think a lot of people are angry because alex is obviously one of the most culturally relevant instances of misogyny in media. that being said being more culturally relevant doesn’t mean it’s the worst instance of misogyny and i think bumble definitely experiences more profound misogyny in the way the actual content is presented, if that makes sense

I get you, and that's a charitable way of looking at it.

I think what's rustling my jimmies is that like, there was a couple of WC fans being mildly dismissive of Alex in that note minefield, after dozens of comments of "fuck you how could you let the fridge woman lose" and "Bumble didn't deserve to win ANY rounds" and "how could A CAT experience misogyny." But then WE get blamed for the toxicity because THEY were butthurt that the Funny Cat People have the 'audacity' to win something they feel entitled to.

Like, we've gotta be endlessly charitable as we get openly insulted because they're upset about Alex losing, a very well-known and culturally relevant character with a legacy so massive we have a whole term named after her. But condemnations of "She's just a cat, letting WC into this poll was a mistake, Bumble can't even be a victim of misogyny" only started coming around once I started talking about it.

But like you said, it's not a "Most Culturally Relevant Misogyny" tournament, it's a "Canon Misogyny Victims" tournament. And you're not even supposed to give a shit that Bumble died. The fat, woman abuse victim is beaten to death by a dictator, and your takeaway is meant to be, "It's so sad that Clear Sky is being blamed for murdering her, now they're all preparing for self-defense against a homicidal maniac, oh nooo :("

And I think that DOES make her deserve the win here! Alex is a MARTYR. Everyone with a brain agrees what happens to her is bad. It happened in her canon because it was bad. We talk about her and keep her memory alive. Bumble gets dismissed entirely out of hand because she's "just a cat in a kid's book" as if that doesn't make it worse, and as if the kid's book didn't treat a domestic abuse survivor like a moron for even asking for help.

Anyway, just to reiterate, I love DC fans. It's not all of you guys. Alex was done dirty and deserves justice-- and it's even kind of a shame that all she became is "The Fridge Woman." I haven't even heard people talk about how she was a wary, responsible person who was still ready to rock with Kyle's new weird glowstick powers, or that she was a journalist, or that she just got brought back in another edition as a Green Lantern only to be revealed as an illusion and re-absorbed back into Kyle's mind. Nope. Even her fans just remember her as The Fridge Woman.

It won't happen cause he barely even trains (he's just not built like that) and people are already fighting over who gets to do it, but it would be hilarious if present Trunks gets the finishing blow against black Frieza, like it's some kind of canon event for him or smth, doesn't matter the timeline he just won't leave that man alone, and it's just so anticlimactic for Frieza every damn time, like who the fuck even is this guy?? i think he's pretty neat! and i'm really happy they expanded Zarbons race just a little bit with Yuzun. though you hate to hear how he went out... there's no peace for my mans race. i hate this solar system. fuuuck.

{{ The DBZ timeline I've created for Maiz (and by extension, the Saiyans) are complete. Included are most bits of Prehistory Saiyans (Sadala Era), to Ancient Saiyans (Late Sadala, Post-Sadala and Planet Plant takeover) to Current Saiyans (Post Planet Plant takeover/Post-Tuffle Genocide/Planet Vegeta Era). The timeline even incorporates: Dr. Lychee/Raichi and the creation of Hatchiyack (he's one of my favorite movie villains if I didn't publicly say this, haha!), the alliance of King Cold with the Second Vegeta (King V II), the weird transition that led to Frieza and their religious/spiritual/esoteric oppression, and obviously, their ultimate end.

Looking at the Red Prince

There's a bit we have to unpack here with the Red Prince and the Red King being absent (most likely dead).

With his father(?) gone, the Prince is left with big shoes to fill, much too big for him to responsibly handle at the moment, acting high and mighty to compensate (and also likely by virtue of his upbringing) and having a few childish touches (and slip ups with the crown) that shows he hasn't had much training to fill this role. He's very firm on his title of royalty, though this may also be his generally pompous and spoiled nature unrelated to the King being gone. As the Curious Cat notes, he struggles with things not going his way under his new charge, being unable to do "the one thing he was put on this acre to do"... fill his father's shoes as a winner of games.

And there's clearly some trauma here tied to the King's (likely) death:

The Prince never took up the mantle of Red King after these events, refusing to take his father's place or take up that high of role so soon. He's still the Red Prince and "there is no king".

When one of the guards comments that "if I hadn't been for [Team RWBY's] kind, the King would still be here", he is quickly shushed by the rest. Either because this isn't info these outsiders should be privy too- or to avoid upsetting the prince, likely still wrestling with the situation.

Absolutely panicked, defensive, and frantic at the thought of infiltrators

His tone drops with fear when he asks what Ruby about her kind and both mentally and physically cracks when he hears they're humans, eyes shrink, eye twitches. General negative associations with humans. (The pieces even react too)

His rambling about infiltrators also goes into some very telling specifics. There have been infiltrators before, namely Alyx in The Girl Who Fell Through the World... and the stealing the crown? Likely not referring to just its value as a treasure (and also a final remnant of his father's influence) but also the title behind it. The Red Prince is the last heir to the Crimson Castle, meaning he is the last line of defense for the royal name and he'd likely be hunted to usurp the inheritance.

There is a good chance that Alyx may have been the one to kill the Red King. This world is the "sequel", the Ever After in Alyx's wake... and before we address that Team RWBY would have known about the King's absence from Girl Who Fell Through the World, consider that we've been shown that fairy tales in RWBY tend to leave things out.

Note that the Prince's doll porcelain cracks when he gets upset- becomes fragile due to his emotions. Perhaps this was exploited by Alyx to defeat and subsequently kill the Red King, testing his temper to make him an easier piece of china to break. Getting overheated emotionally (assuming they have a rather high threshold) and cracking seems to be practically a death omen for the Red royalty as it leaves them highly vulnerable to breakage...

...especially considering that, even after the Curious Cat touches his heart to calm him down, the Red Prince's cracks don't mend.
